In my human form, I live with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). I wanted to explain them here so I dont have to repeat myself in streams~
What is EDS?
What is EDS?I was born with a genetic defect in my collagen genes~ basically the "glue" (collagen) that holds my body together is stretchy and not as strong as it should be. This makes my joints super bendy and hypermobile, but they also sublux (partially dislocate) easily in places like my SI Joint, elbows, knees, and fingers. I wear ring splints, especially while gaming, to help reduce pain and prevent my fingers from subluxating. I also deal with daily chronic pain, making it feel like I play life on hard mode. To manage the pain, I take ketamine troches multiple times a day. You might hear me mention I am "taking my medicine" during my streams. They absorb orally in my mouth, making me sound a bit silly while I talk, and eventually am not able to talk for a bit until my medicine is finished, as it fills my mouth full making me unable to speak. Think of it as my magical potion to help my pain.・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・What is POTS?POTS (often a comorbidity to EDS,) affects my autonomic nervous system. Standing or getting too hot can make my heart race, and make my blood pool into my feet causing me to be dizzy and fatigued. That is why I sip extra electrolytes/salt, wear compression garments, and stay hydrated like the melon soda I am!・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・What is Hashimotos?I also have an autoimmune condition where my immune system attacks my thyroid gland, which can make me feel extra tired, sluggish, and effect my energy levels. I manage it with a medication called Levothyroxine, which helps replace the hormones my body needs, that it isn't creating on its own.・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・ADHD:My brain is a bouncy, sparkly ball of ideas and distractions! ADHD is also often a comorbidity to EDS. I have ADHD, but am currently unmedicated because my ADHD medicine (stimulants) can interact with my POTS symptoms and beta blockers by raising my heart rate, whilst my beta blocker slows my heart rate down to help with pots. Taking both medications together in counteract one another, potentially causing negative effects. I choose to avoid nonstimulants due to them not being as effective for me, and not wanting to have to take the medication everyday. I prefer to try to treat it naturally with lifestyle tricks such as taking L-Theanine.・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・୨୧・┈・Things That Make My Life Easier as a SpoonieEnjoying the Simple Things & Taking It Easy: Pacing myself, celebrating my joys, doing the things I love, and remembering its okay to rest like a sleepy melon soda on the shelf.Do Things I Love That Fit My Lifestyle: Streaming, gaming, making music, creative projects, and creating my own business while honoring what my body needs helps make life easier and more enjoyable.Extra Salt & Electrolytes Daily: My special magical girl potion! I sprinkle extra love (and salt) into my drinks to keep my blood volume happy and fight off those POTS gremlins.Extra Hydration: I'm a walking melon! Lots of watermelon, honeydew, and fluids to stay juicy and refreshed (melons are nature's electrolyte-packed treat~)Low Inflammatory Organic Diet: Feeding my body gentle goodness with foods that don cause extra inflammation. I also drink reverse osmosis with a countertop machine.Compression Garments: My magical armor! I wear them on my hands, wrists, legs, sometimes my belly, and elbows to help stop blood pooling and keep everything from slipping out of place.Ring Splints: Tiny splints for my fingers that help keep my joints stable while I type, game, or do creative projects!Oral Ketamine Troches: My magical pain relief potion. It helps block receptors in my brain responsible for pain, allowing multisystem pain to be eased. Truly the only thing that has helped my pain.Hot Baths with Epsom Salt: Soaking in warm bubbly water helps relax my muscles and eases the aches.
Vitamins & Supplements: Daily power-up to help support my body's needs.Low-Impact Movement: Gentle Strength training or exercise pools where I can float and exercise without stressing my joints.Massage Guns & Foot Massager: It helps to ease pain by providing relaxing relief in times of flare ups.
